Some anime/manga characters’ birthdays have meaning.
But is there any manga that is so meticulously created than Jujutsu Kaisen?
I’ve never seen a manga like Jujutsu Kaisen before…
The key word is “Season”.
I made the list of birthdays. Check it out.
As you can see from this chart, there is a lot of variation in the month of birthdays.
There is no one in May, on the other hand, March and December have many birthdays.
Why…?
The reason is that the birthdays of the characters in Jujutsu Kaisen are based on the seasons in Japan.
Here’s one key word.
Keyword : 二十四節気(Nijuushisekki)
The year is divided into 24 equal parts as a guide to seasonal transitions, and each division is named after a season.
There are many days in Japan that represent the seasons.
And those are related to Jujutsu Kaisen characters’ birthdays.
Check the charts.
From January to April
大寒/Daikan
It refers to the latter 15 days of the 30-day cold period from the 15th day after the winter solstice to Risshun, when the cold is at its most severe.
立春/Risshun
When the first signs of spring appear
雨水/Usui
As the snow turns to rain with the warmth and the snow melts, the first signs of spring arrive.
啓蟄/Keichitsu
This is the time when insects that have been hibernating in the ground during the winter start to crawl out of the ground, sensing the signs of spring.
春分/Shunbun
There are two days in a year, spring and autumn, when the length of day and night are equal, and this is the day in spring.
清明/Seimei
When plants and trees are budding, clean, bright and beautiful.
穀雨/Kokuu
Blessed rain that nurtures the growth of grains.
From June to October
芒種/Boushu
Time to sow seeds of grains (rice, wheat, etc.) that have a stalk.
夏至/Geshi
The day with the longest day and shortest night of the year.
小暑/Shousho
The rainy season is almost over, and we are heading into the real heat of the season.
大暑/Taisho
The hottest time of the year.
立秋/Risshyu
When the signs of autumn appear.
秋分/Shuubun
There are two days in a year, spring and autumn, when the length of day and night are equal, and this is the day in autumn.
霜降/Soukou
When autumn has passed and the first mist begins to fall.
From November to December
立冬/Rittou
When the signs of winter appear.
大雪/Taisetu
When the snow begins to fall heavily and the real cold weather arrives.
冬至/Toji
The day with the shortest day and the longest night of the year.
And their birthdays have nothing to do with the seasons.
- Nanami
- Mechamaru
- Toji
It’s too sad but this must have some relation with it.
Keyword: 春分・夏至・秋分・冬至
And I think there’s an interesting clue here.
Maybe there is a clue in the daylight hours.
I guess someone’s birthday would be 夏至 (Geshi), the opposite of Megumi.
Because look at Yuji and Todo.
They have different birthdays, but similar seasons, 春分 (Shunbun) and 秋分 (Shuubun). Both of them are the day when daytime and nighttime are exactly the same!!
That’s why they are best friends.
So I think a character whose birthday is on 夏至 (Geshi) will show up in the future.
And I think that person will be an important character.
What do you guys think?
Anyway, there are so many clues just from birthdays.
I want to check the character setting sheets somehow.
I think Gege’s name, Ge, is a shortened form of genius.
Gege-Sensei is “Ge”nius “Ge”nius!
