Jujutsu Kaisen【ch.6】Full-page explanation
Hi everyone, こんにちは!
This is Kyle Scouter.
Welcome to a thrilling journey into the dark and mystic world of Jujutsu Kaisen!
I will break down each panel, offering insightful commentary and analysis to enhance your understanding of the story, characters, and the fascinating world created by Gege Akutami Sensei.
I’ve created visual aids to help illustrate each point on every page, making it easier to follow the details.
This time I will talk about Jujutsu Kaisen Ch.6 “呪胎戴天(Fearsome Womb)” and explain in detail in the text what the images alone cannot explain enough.
Let’s dive into the Jujutsu Kaisen world now!
Page 1
① Nobara’s profile
・She is just short of 160cm tall
・Her hair is dyed
・She goes shopping during her free time (Students receive a stipend)
・She tries a lot of foods, buys a lot of clothes and is enjoying her life in Tokyo
・In chapter 4, Kugisaki kicked away an 80kg Itadori. Please pay it no mind
This is her Profile in Jujutsu Kaisen vol.1 extra. She really wanted to come to Tokyo and she can put her life on the line for it. Looks like she’s enjoying Tokyo life.
Also, it’s surprising that Yuji weighs 80kg. He is only 173 cm tall but weighs 80 kg. Yuji’s body must be packed with muscles, that’s why he can run 50 meters in 3 seconds.
② Ijichi = musician
Gege Sensei says in the official fan book that Ijichi comes from the drummer of a band called Asian Kung Fu Generation. His name is Kiyoshi Ijichi, while the name of Ijicji in Jujutsu Kaisen is Kiyotaka Ijichi. their name are so simlimar to each other.
Ijichi in Jujutsu Kaisen is an assistant director at Jujutsu High and two years younger than Gojo. He has a businessperson-like appearance with black hair, glasses, and hollow cheeks, and he is not flashy at all. He looks like a clerical person who can’t take a joke and is busy following up on the unrestrained Gojo, but in fact, he is a very humane and good-natured character who has more sense of responsibility and love for his students.
However, the actual Ijichi does not look like Jujutsu Kaisen’s Ijichi. He has a stylish haircut and the way he plays the drums gives no impression of Ijichi of Jujutsu Kaisen.

① Grade Table
Ijichi explains the strength criteria for each grade by replacing them for modern weapons.
Grade 4 – “A wooden bat is enough.”
Grade 3 – “If you have a handgun, you can rest easy.”
Grade 2 – “Close call with a shotgun.”
Grade 1 – “Even a tank might be insufficient.”
Special Grade – “Cluster bombs might work.”
This way you can see how strong the Special Grade is. However, this criterion becomes less meaningful after the Shibuya Incident, according to Gege Sensei.
Even that, I think this is a good way for readers to understand and translate strength.
② Foreshadowing of a strong enemy
“Do not engage!”
“When confronted a special grade, the options are either to runaway or die”
This is Ijichi’s order for 1st years.
Unlike the previous enemies, we can see that what is about to appear is a very dangerous cursed spirit. Up until Ch.5, the story was an explanation of the characters and the worldview, but from now on, the story is going to take a sharp turn.
This is the typical pattern of Shonen Jump manga.

① Grandpa’s Will
Yuji follows his Grandpa’s will here. Even though Ijichi tells them not to fight and run away, Yuji still tries to help people inside.
But Megumi doesn’t reply. While Yuji wants to help people as much as possible, Megumi has a different policy than Yuji.
② 帳(Tobari)
Curtain (帳:Tobari) is a barrier with a large dome-shaped outer shell that hides anything within it from outside view. Inside the barrier turns the sky to night, luring cursed spirits out from hiding.
It is activated with the incantation:
闇より出て闇より黒くその汚れを禊ぎ祓え(Yami yori idete yami yori kuroku sono kegare o misogiharae).
This wording uses some slightly older words, which sounds cool to the Japanese. And it sounds like BLEACH. Gege Sensei was a big fan of BLEACH, so I think he gets some elements from BLEACH.
Page 6&7
① The sound of curtain
Upon activation, a dark, almost liquid-like matter drips down from the sky to form the outer barrier wall in the shape of a half-sphere. It sounds “ドプッ(Dopu)” in Japanese. “ドプッ(Dopu)” is an onomatopoeia in Japanese used to express the sound of something dropping into water or a liquid making a soft, plopping noise. It resembles sounds like “dop” or “plop” in English. It’s typically used to depict the sound of a water droplet falling or a small object entering water.
② Sudden change
Sudden changes occurred here. Again, the production here makes the reader think that something big is about to happen. This is because Gege Sensei is trying to improve its ranking position.
Shonen Jump takes weekly surveys from readers and changes the order of publication according to the ratings in the surveys. If the manga continues to have a low publication ranking, it will be terminated. It is especially difficult for newly serialized manga to survive. Jujitsu Kaisen also needed to maintain its ranking high, so Gege Sensei was trying to attract readers to avoid being terminated.

① メゾネット(maisonetto)
A “maisonette” refers to a dwelling unit within a larger building that typically spans more than one floor, often resembling a small house within a larger structure. It’s essentially a two-story apartment or condominium with a private entrance, distinct from the main building.
Nobara is still joking in this situation. They don’t really understand that they are in a dangerous situation.
② 生得領域(Shotoku Ryoiki)
Innate Domain is called 生得領域(Shotoku Ryoiki) in Japanese.
生得(Shotoku) means “Something you are born with”.
領域(Ryoiki) means “Domain”.
So it literally means the domain that you are born with. So the Innate Domain is the domain of a person’s innate mind you are born with.
The innate domain differs from person to person. For example, Sukuna’s Innate Domain is a space that looks like a pile of cow skulls in a sea of blood. Then, Domain Expansion is to apply a technique to the innate domain and materialize it with a Cursed Energy.
③ Gap with the upcoming events
Nobara and Yuji dance and adore the Divine dog. Only Megumi said “Stay Sharp”. This scene also shows that Yuji and Nobara are not serious and underestimate this mission. They just came to Tokyo recently and didn’t really know what it meant to be a sorcerer.
But Megumi knows it really well. He has been a sorcerer with Gojo since he was a small kid.
