Jujutsu Kaisen【ch.244】Full-page explanation
Hi everyone, こんにちは!
This is Kyle Scouter.
Welcome to a thrilling journey into the dark and mystic world of Jujutsu Kaisen!
In this blog, I will break down each panel, offering insightful commentary and analysis to enhance your understanding of the story, characters, and the fascinating world created by Gege Akutami Sensei.
I’ve created visual aids to help illustrate each point on every page, making it easier to follow the details.
Finally, Yuji & Higuruma VS. Sukuna battle has started!
What is Yuji’s new Technique?
How can we win Sukuna?
Everyone has been wondering about it, and there are some clues for that in this chapter.
But this chapter was all about Japanese law and it was so hard to understand even for Japanese…
That’s why I’m writing this explanation for you guys.
I hope this will help you to enjoy ch.244 more.
So let’s get started!
Page 1
① Editor’s comment
This chapter’s comment is “新宿決戦第3戦!!日車&虎杖VS両面宿儺、開戦!!”
In English, “The 3rd Battle of Shinjuku! Hikuruma & Itadori VS Ryomen Sukuna, the battle begins!”
Finally this battle has started!! This may be the final battle of Jujutsu Kaisen, or…??
Anyways, we’ve been waiting for this battle to start! From this comment, we can predict that a very exciting battle is about to begin.
② Title of this chapter
Title of Ch.244 is “Inhuman Makyo Shinjuku Showdown, Part 16(人外魔境新宿決戦⑯)”. So now the title is back from “バカサバイバー(Foolish Survivor)”, which is the title of Takaba VS. Kenjaku battle arc.
Inhuman Makyo Shinjuku Showdown could be about the battle with Sukuna.

① Miwa’s Binding Vow
Kusakabe reveals that Miwa actually made a Binding Vow to herself in the Shibuya Incident. I thought she was just attacking Kenjaku with the feeling that she would never swing a Katana again for the rest of her life, but in fact this was Binding Vow. She probably wanted to avenge Mechamaru that badly. This is so sad…
But then why was she in Sendai Colony after Yuta fought with Ishigori?
This is still unexplained and a mystery.
And Japanese people are discussing some really dark theories about Miwa, which is “Kenjaku took over Miwa’s body”.
This sounds stupid, but the theory is as I tweeted on X.
https://twitter.com/kylescouter/status/1731659189322404274
The way Miwa laughs is similar to Kenjaku now.
She laughs “タハハ(Tahaha)” in this scene while Kenjaku laughs “タハー(Taha-)” when he was talking with Choso. There was a suspicious atmosphere when Miwa was walking in Sendai colony, and this laugh may be foreshadowing. They are similar, even as odd bangs.
This is what Japanese fans are talking about.
If it were true, all the Jujutsu Kaisen fans would be shocked!
② Seating order
This one panel shows what kind of personalities they are and how well they get along.
Yuji → He sits between Choso and Kamo. Choso is his Oniichan, so he wants to sit next to him, and Komo might get along with Yuji during their training.
2nd Year → They all sit next to each other. They are so close.
3rd Year → Standing at the back and listening to the conversation.
This is interesting, isn’t it?
Also, who is the person next to Momo?
Is this Arata Nitta?
③ Yuji learned how to use Blood Manipulation?
Yuji is grateful for what Kamo has taught him. This must show that Yuji can use Blood Manipulation now. What Choose and Kamo have in common is Technique. So Yuji ate Choso’s brothers and got the Technique from them.
And look at Choso’s face. Maybe he thought he was good at teaching. He looks very surprised.

① Executioner’s sword
You might have forgotten about his Technique, so let’s take a look again. If the judgeman in Higuruma’s Domain Expansion gives “Death Penalty”, Higuruma gets Executioner’s sword. Without exception, Anyone cut by the Executioner’s sword will die.
So getting the Death Penalty can be a big advantage in a Sukuna battle.
② What has Sukuna done so far?
Sukuna has manifested 3 times in Jujutsu Kaisen story so far.
(1) In Yuji’s highschool
・Bodily injury to Yuji
・Attempted Murder of Gojo
(2) Detention Center
・Murder Yuji (Attempted)
・Attempted murder of Megumi
(3) Shibuya Incident
・Murder of Mimiko & Nanako
・Murder of Haruta Shigemo
・Attempted murder of civilians
・Arson of inhabited buildings
Looking back in this way, Sukuna has not done much bad except for the Shibuya Incident. This shows how good Yuji was as the cage to him.

① & ② Yuji’s face
Yuji’s feelings are expressed on his face in these panels.
In ①, Yuji speaks recalling what happened in the juvenile detention center. Many juveniles were killed by Finger bearers because of Sukuna’s finger. This was Yuji’s first mission and he wanted to help people so hard, but he couldn’t. He’s so mad about it.
Amd in ②, Yuji is told by Higuruma that “legally, this is not abetted or assisted by Sukuna”.
So Yuji feels guilty about it. This scene is so painful.
③ 永山基準(Nagayama Criteria)
This is the criteria for applying the death penalty in criminal trials in Japan. Termed the “永山基準(Nagayama Criteria)” after the judgment of the first trial of Norio Nagayama, the defendant in a series of four murders in 1983, where the Supreme Court overturned the life imprisonment sentence of the second trial. This standard considers factors such as the number of victims killed, impacting subsequent death penalty decisions widely.
The criteria comprise nine elements: (1) nature of the crime, (2) motives, planning, etc., (3) manner of committing the crime, brutality, persistence, (4) seriousness of the outcome, particularly the number of victims killed, (5) feelings of the victims’ families, (6) societal impact, (7) age of the perpetrator, whether a minor at the time of the crime, (8) criminal record, and (9) post-crime circumstances. These elements are considered, and in cases where criminal responsibility is extremely severe and inevitable from the perspective of crime prevention, the selection of the death penalty is permissible.
This is too specialized and uncommon even to the Japanese. Miwa thought Kusakabe was pretending to understand, but she should be forgiven for thinking so.
On the contrary, it is a wonder how he knows it.
Page 8&9
① Pachinko is illegal for those under 18 years old
In Japan, the legal age for participating in pachinko, a popular arcade game involving gambling elements, is set at 18 years old. However, not everybody is always checked when they enter the store, the staff checks the age when they find a young person. So you can sneak into Pachinko Parlor even if you’re under 18. That’s why Yuji could go there.
Since WSJ is for boys, compliance was strict, and the editor told Gege Sensei not to depict Yuji’s visit to pachinko. But Gege Sensei didn’t take it seriously and he ignored it. This is such a funny episode.
② Milk Boy’s comedy
This scene makes us laugh.
Yuji says in Japanese,
じゃあ時効か(A statute of limitations, right?)
時効じゃないってこと?!(So no statute of limitations?)
時効じゃん!!(So there’s a statute of limitations!!)
ほな時効違うか…(Or not…)
This is coming from the Japanese Comedian, Milk Boy.
They discuss a variety of things and have this interaction. This funny conversation is what made them famous comedians in Japan.
That’s it for this chapter.
